Cheap and Easy Meatball Sub Recipe

Meatball Sub delicious and cheap

This meatball sub sandwich is quick and easy to make. The longest step in this recipe is toasting the buns and heating up the spaghetti sauce.

The best part of this Meatball Sub Sandwich is that it’s made with ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry or refrigerator. That and it pairs nicely with just about any kind of pickled vegetable (so instant bonus points in my book)!

When making the meatball sub sandwich you can use any type of meatball you desire. I love leftover meatballs for this recipe, try my favorite recipe or for simplicity’s sake use pre-made frozen meatballs. Experiment with different types and flavors of meatballs for additional kick or spice. I’d love to hear with what combinations you come up.

Ingredients (per sub sandwich)

2 Meatballs
1 Tbsp. Parmesan Cheese
2 Tbsp. Ricotta Cheese
1 Hot Dog Bun
Spaghetti Sauce (Hunts is the cheapest, but any brand will do)
1 tsp. Garlic Salt
1 tsp. Oregano

Meatball Sub LayoutDirections.

1. Heat the spaghetti sauce and meatballs in a pan over medium heat. As it heats stir in the oregano and any other desired Italian spices for additional flavoring.

2. Split the hot dog buns in half lengthwise. Sprinkle with garlic salt and place on a cookie sheet under the broiler for 1 minute or until slightly browned and crisp. Remove from heat.

3. Spread ricotta cheese on one side of the bun. On the other side place the pre-heated meatballs with some spaghetti sauce. Sprinkle parmesan cheese over the top. Put bun top on and your sandwich is done. For additional cheese melting place entire sandwich under broiler for 30 seconds. Serve warm.

Enjoy!
