Tropical Storm Maria has been threatening us here in Antigua for several days with intermittent rain showers, but she finally “hit” last night by startling us out of our sleep with claps of thunder so loud I wouldn’t have been surprised if the buildings had fallen down around us!

In the rain, normally, I would still spend a considerable amount of time walking the beaches – there is something relaxing, almost meditative, about walking in the rain- and what better place to do it than on a beach! Unfortunately, we are at a place in Antigua where the beaches are short and surrounded by rocky cliffs that are impassible…

7 Fun things to do on your rainy day vacation

1. Read

If your hotel doesn’t have an impressive collection of books left behind by fellow travelers, then start chatting up your vacation neighbors, swap books, or better yet…

2. Make Friends

Learn about others’s journeys. Why do they travel? Where do they recommend you visit? One of the most fulfilling parts of traveling for me is the learning through others’s (experiences, thoughts, etc.)

3. Play Card Games

No cards? How about Tic-Tac-Toe? Now that you have friends- Enjoy them! (Depending on what kind of trip you’re on, and if you really want time to fly, why not make it into a drinking game?)

4. Relax

You’re on vacation! You don’t have to do anything, that’s the beauty of a vacation.

5. Sleep

Catch up on your beauty rest. There is nothing more peaceful than sleeping to the sound of rain pattering on the roof or windows.

6. Eat

Foreign countries have the best exotic food! You have the time, and you’re on vacation- why not eat it up! If you can find someone to teach you one of the local delicacies so you can eat it when you get home too!

7. Enjoy yourself

It bears repeating: You’re on vacation!

And, if you’re me… Catch up on Blogging :c)
