1. Glenwood Cemetery

As strange as it may sound- the Glenwood Cemetery is my favorite place for taking fall photographs. The gravestones and Oak trees are a sight to behold, especially as the fall leaves start to color the sky and blanket the ground. It is situated up on a hill on one of the most beautiful streets on Mankato, this cemetery is home to some semi-famous people, including the children’s book author, Maud Hart Lovelace. As well as a few others. It’s also a really great place to get away for some peace and quiet.

2. Sibley Park

Sibley Park is the place where the Blue Earth and Minnesota Rivers meet, which means you’re in a valley with lots of colorful trees and some wildlife. Walk or bike the trails, or walk down to the river’s edge- try different angles for some fabulous photographs! If you’re looking for some tamed down animals, there is also a “petting zoo” at the Sibley Farm.

3. Seven Mile Creek

Seven Mile Creek, located off of Hwy 169 in the Minnesota River Valley, has numerous trails that you can follow through the densely wooded area. This Nicollet County Park offers 628 acres of fall color and 8 miles of walking or biking trails. I personally enjoy stopping at the bridges and enjoying the unique perspectives they offer of the valley.

4. Bike Trails

Biking the Trails

Fall TrailsJump on your bike and take to the trails. Greater Mankato area is an incredibly bike-friendly area with trails taking you through our fabulous state parks, like Minneopa Falls, or in some of our quaint towns, like Rapidan. Take the Sakatah and Red-Jacket Trails for a defined path and destination.

After all that biking and walking you’ll probably be hungry. Drive out to Welsch Heritage Apple Farm located off of Hwy. 60 heading south out of Mankato. They will set you up with apples galore… and if you’re not one for baking- grab a pie or two (or 5, I won’t tell).

Grab an apple cider while you’re at it- there’s nothing better than fresh hot apple cider on Fall evenings.
