The selfie portrait is fun, but way over used. There are only so many photos that people want to see of you and only you.

But you’re traveling and want to prove that you were there, right? So how do you show that while still maintaining the atmosphere of the location? By following these 5 creative photo tips.

5 great Non-Selfie Self Portraits

1. The Reflection.

The reflection self-portrait is the closest to being the narcissitic selfie portrait, but it gives a great sense of location. Telling the story through your surroundings, and even by what you’re wearing (note the thick layers for this Anchorage winter stroll).

2. Your Feet.

Feet are pretty easy to capture. They tend to be far enough away from your head, and therefore your camera lens, that you can pull off a pretty neat shot. The photo above was taken to show walking on a lake, but try propping your legs up and enjoying the view (like in the header shot of this post). Let your toes take the place of your face.

3. Hands.

Your hand can tell the whole story, if you let it. A thumbs up tells of a good time- being at a Twins game. Just look at that view! You get the essence of being at the game, enjoying the game and the atmosphere, all without having to show your face.

4. Beverage Relaxation.
Drinks at the lake
Where there’s vacation there’s usually a drink, or two. Even if the drink is just a fresh squeezed orange juice, it’s still remarkable. Why not make that part of your visual story- commemorate the moment in all its sipping gladness.

5. A Meaningful Belonging.

Like my man’s “Puffy”, the club head cover- he loves to golf and it has traveled to courses around the world with him. It (and golf) are as much a statement of self as any self portrait could be.
