Grilled Morel Mushroom Recipe

The first step with cooking morel mushrooms is to wash them first. With how porous they are there are definitely more than a few bugs in them. I usually soak them for about 10 minutes, rinse each one out thoroughly as I slice them in half, and then lay them out to dry on a towel while I do the rest.

An aluminum foil boat for morel mushrooms and olive oil

After slicing and washing the morel mushrooms take a large sheet of aluminum foil and create a “boat” by folding up all four edges of the foil.

Place the morels inside the aluminum foil boat then coat in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Place morels on the grill over direct heat

Place aluminum foil boat on a charcoal grill over direct heat. Cook your meat or other items being grilled alongside the morels. Depending on what you’re making everything should get done cooking at about the same time!

Serve warm, over some nice venison steaks!

Instructions
  1. Soak and wash your morel mushrooms thoroughly. Slice in half and lay out on a paper towel or dish cloth to dry.
  2. Heat grill to 425 degrees fahrenheit.
  3. Create a "tray" with a piece of aluminum foil. Place morels in "tray" and pour olive oil over the top (you may not need a full 1/4 cup but you'll want enough to coat the bottom of the tray so the mushrooms don't stick to the foil). Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Place tray of morel mushrooms on grill. Cook over direct heat for 8 to 15 minutes (depending on how many mushrooms you have- more time for more mushrooms- less time for less)
