Fall is my absolute favorite season. Sure, part of it is because my birthday falls sometime during the season, but it’s mostly because of everything else.
I mean, how can you not love a season where the colors are so breathtaking that people make weekend trips just to drive through them. Or when you never really know what to wear for the day because it could be as warm as 70 degrees or as low as 40! Just the idea of leaving the furnace off in favor of a nice hot fire in the wood burning stove gives me goose bumps.
1. Color.
The colors are breathtaking; oranges, reds, yellows and even the greens are beautiful! This year we have had a lot of rain, so there is just as much green still out there as all the other colors- and I’m loving it! Everywhere I turn I want to snap more and more photos. There is no way to truly capture all the beauty of fall colors.
2. Harvest.
Watching the farmers methodically clear the corn and soybeans off the fields is one of my secret pleasures. I love it, even though it makes for a terrible hay fever allergy season… If you ever get a change- ride in the combine w/the farm as they harvest. It is one of the coolest things to do.
3. Sunsets.
I swear the sunsets are 100% more beautiful in the fall than any other season. Maybe it’s because I’m shocked by how early the sun sets every evening so I notice them more… Whatever the reason, they are worth watching- Set yourself up somewhere with a bottle of wine and watch the beauty and colors unfold. And then turn around and watch the moon rise, because that is equally amazing.
4. Hunting Season.
I am going to preface this one by saying that I am not much of a hunter. I don’t know what I would do if I ever actually shot an animal- yikes. I know that for a lot of people, all the men in my life included, hunting and fall are synonymous.
I personally enjoy being out in nature and “shooting” pictures of the hunt. I’m not going to lie and pretend I don’t like to eat the spicy venison sticks from the deer hunt, or the bacon-wrapped pheasant. Wild Game meat does a great job of feeding us during the winter, and the excitement and planning that goes into a successful hunt is to be commended.
Note: I approve of hunting only if every part of, or as much as possible of the animal is used for meat, clothing, etc. I do not believe in hunting for sport, just to shoot something. Coming from a farm background I understand how things like deer can become a nuisance and that there is a need for hunting seasons to help keep the herd healthy.
5. Fall Walks.
Perfect weather. Beautiful color. Happy people. Fall is a great time to be out and about. Explore. Walk. Breathe in the fresh air. Enjoy it!
Maybe you’ll find a “treasure” or two.
