Several of these tips can be helpful when reselling on any platform but are geared specifically to selling on Poshmark. This has been one heck of a roller coaster year where starting new things (or doing things in new, socially-distant ways) and purging the old has become the norm. Travel has been limited to a jaunt from the living room to the yard and back so I thought it would be fun to guide you to try something different that is good for you and the environment – and maybe put a bit more money into your travel pot! This is part of my series on Purging Sustainably.
10 Tips for Selling on Poshmark
When I started reselling on Poshmark I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I thought that just taking photos of the items and putting them on Poshmark was enough. Over the past year I have learned these tips for selling on Poshmark and wanted to share with you so that you may hit the ground running!
Sign up for Poshmark and use code: ‘GRENTICO’ and we’ll both get $5!
These tips are meant for once you have already listed your clothing, shoes, or accessory items on Poshmark. For more tips on how to list your items you can click here.
1. Share your Listings. Share. Share. Share.
People can’t buy your stuff if they don’t know it exists! Reselling is all about getting your listings in front of as many people as possible. Sharing items daily (or weekly, or as often as you can) is the best possible way to do that. Sharing listings (yours and others’) is an easy, quick thing to do while you’re waiting…
Waiting at the doctor’s office, waiting on your kids to put on their snow pants, or any other free minute or two you have where you’d normally be wasting time are great times to share, share, share.
2. Grow Your Follower List
The best possible way to sell your clothes on Poshmark is by getting them in front of everyone you can!
While Poshmark isn’t a social media network like instagram, twitter, or Facebook, it is still a social based app. The people on there are so friendly and want to be your friend- so comment, share, like and follow.
Let them know you’re a real person- life is so much more fun when you’re dealing with “real people” and you’ll find that the better the relationships are that you develop on Poshmark, the more sales you will make!
The more followers you have the more attention your listings will receive. Best way to grow your followers is to become a posh ambassador.
3. Become a Posh Ambassador
Not only does it sound swanky, but it’s also a super easy way to insure a constant stream of new followers.
In order to become one you’ll need to share over 5,000 items of yours and other’s, plus sell over 15 items before you can apply to become an ambassador, but it’s worth it for the exponential growth that you’ll see once you do. You can learn more about all the steps to becoming an ambassador here.
4. Share your listings during daily “POSH PARTIES“.
When you first start out on the Poshmark app you won’t have a follower base so the very best way to get your new listings in front of people is to attend the Posh Parties. Every single day there are four different parties that have a different focus, from ‘kids clothes’ to ‘best in bags’ to four or five popular brands like Coach, Victoria’s Secret, or Patagonia, to ‘office attire’ parties. There tend to be over 100,000 listings entered into each posh party, so you know that’s where the people are!
You can post anything that fits the details of the party during that time to get those items in front of thousands of shoppers.
5. Price to Sell (but don’t give them away!)
Review what similar items to your own have sold for on Poshmark and then price accordingly. I always recommend pricing a few dollars higher than for which everything normally sells.
For example if you think something will probably sell for about $20 then list it for $22 or $23. This gives you the ability to easily drop your price by 10% (see #8) without losing out!
Don’t get greedy on Poshmark, or you may end up never getting rid of anything. Know what your bottom line amount that you’ll accept on an item is and then if you receive an offer for it- sell it! Get it out of your house so you don’t have to think about it anymore!
6. Take Great Photos
Great photos with good lighting are key. Also always make sure to include a photo of any and all tags. Poshmark is one of the only selling apps that has the ability to “read” the data in a tag which then makes it indexable for google- meaning more eyes on your item!
You can have up to 16 photos for any given listing, so use them all and make them count!
7. Get Likes
Likes (the hearts on each listing) are how you reach people who have expressed an interest in your clothing listing for sale. Once someone clicks on that heart they are saying that they like the item. They may just be waiting for that perfect time- like the Closet Clear Out sales to purchase!
The more likes you have, the more likely that dropping the price during a Poshmark sale will benefit you and end up in a sale!
8. Piggyback on Poshmark Sales
Very frequently Poshmark conducts sales like their popular “Closet Clear Out” sales.
Closet Clear Out means that if you drop the price of your item by 10% or more anyone that has liked (clicked on the heart of) that item will receive an email or notification that not only has your item been dropped in price, but which also will offer the buyer reduced shipping rates! It’s a win-win situation and a lot of buyers will take advantage so be ready to price drop. Closet Clear Out sales is one reason it’s a good idea to list just a little bit higher than your goal price.
9. Provide Measurements
I know a lot of people don’t like the extra work of measuring an item, but going the distance by providing it up front sure does give you a leg up on any competition that might not. If you don’t want to write out the measurements an easy hack is to take a photo of the ruler on the garment and use that. Just make sure the numbers are legible otherwise it defeats the purpose!
10. Customer Service
Please, please, please, whatever you do make sure you provide better than best customer service. Follow through with what you say, fess up to mistakes (but take the financial hit if you have to), take returns, be a human… Treat someone better than you would want to be treated in the same situation.
I just hand someone cancel my full price order (a $60 order) because not only did they count the item incorrectly and were going to provide me with 10 less than they stated in the listing, but they also were going to have to pay more in shipping. I did NOT ask to have it cancelled- they just did it. Dishonesty and greed is the worst. Please do not be this person. It puts a bad taste in the buyer’s mouth and makes someone rethink using a platform for purchasing, which hurts everyone.
Whether you joined PM to make money, purge your old stuff or just because remember to have fun with it!
