If your goal is to get away from the daily grind of work, and other responsibilities for a couple of days, East Bay Suites is a prime destination where you can leave everything behind and simply relax.

East Bay Suites Review

Located along the Lake Superior shore in Grand Marais, East Bay Suites offers the perfect combination of style and convenience with all the comforts of home, and a beautiful view! Bring a friend or your whole family and even your dog. This place is designed to impress them all!

Friendly Staff at East Bay Suites

Upon arrival, my friend and I were greeted by an upbeat and knowledgeable staff person who made us feel right at home, giving us information to help make the most of our stay.

In our suite, we found a hand-written welcome note signed by EBS Staff along with two free drink tokens to a local brewery. It said “Leave the rat race behind and enjoy the slower pace of life in the North woods as our guests!”

We were in Grand Marais looking for peace and quiet and to experience different places to dine and see. It was nice to be presented with an option of a place to go-at no charge– all before we even set down our bags!

Our second day in Grand Marais had us looking for a place to dine that offered fresh fish. The front desk staff person’s suggestion couldn’t have been better!

The staff never made us feel like we were being a bother with our questions but rather just the opposite, being more than happy to engage in conversations and answer our questions.

Apartment Living

Looking for a home away from home that has all the amenities- East Bay Suites is the place to be. It’s like staying in your very own apartment while on vacation.

Cooler temperatures drew our attention to the beautiful double sided fireplace. One side could be used in the sitting area, the other was designed to be enjoyed in the master bedroom.

Kitchen

If a clean, fully furnished kitchen is what you are counting on to prepare your meals, East Bay Suites is the place for you! Bring along your groceries and never have to eat a meal out.

Obviously not our goal during our stay, however it was nice to have all of our coffee supplies provided in our room so we could brew a pot and enjoy it on the balcony or beach while watching the sunrise. All dishes, surfaces and appliances were in excellent condition, and looked and felt clean.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom in our suite provided a comfortable queen bed with extra pillows and ceiling fans to help circulate the heat from the fireplace. The master bedroom was impressive with a spacious and newly redone bathroom including a large walk in shower.

I’m embarrassed to admit that we were in our suite for almost an hour before we even knew the master bathroom existed. Its entrance is located directly behind the bedroom door and remains unseen until the bedroom door begins to shut.

Two large windows in the master bedroom allow for an unbeatable view of the rising sun across Lake Superior first thing each morning. Enjoy the colors in the sky, reflections in the water along with the boats drifting by and the seagulls that dot the shoreline. The fireplace helped keep us toasty  as the temperatures dipped into the 40’s overnight.

A second spacious bathroom with a tub and shower were located behind the kitchen. Located directly outside the bathroom was a stackable washer and dryer, complete with soap and fabric softener, for anyone needing laundry services.

What a View

The beach view from the shore of Lake Superior is stunning! Climb to the third floor where it gets even better.

Make sure to take a walk along the beach in either direction to watch the waves roll up onto the beach while listening to the small rocks wash back into Lake Superior. The view changes as you walk down the beach to include large rocks where we were able to walk out onto each evening and enjoy the setting sun.

Dog Friendly Accommodations

If you are a dog owner or a dog lover, you will be right at home here. Four legged friends are a common sight in and around East Bay Suites. They even have a place to wipe off your furry friends’ paws right outside the lobby, to help keep things clean.

Forget your plastic clean up bag when taking your friend for a walk? No problem as there are Mutt Mitt stations located outdoors for your convenience.

Make sure to let the fine people at East Bay Suites know you are bringing your furry friend when you make your reservation as additional fees may apply.

Location on Lake Superior

Walk out any door of the East Bay Suites and you will be just minutes away from dozens of unique places to walk, shop, drink and dine, including top rated restaurants! There truly is something for everyone surrounding the East Bay Suites.

From Drury Lane Books and World’s Best Donuts just across the street to the Food Coop just down the road, the only thing my friend and I hoped we had more of during our stay, was time! More time to try all of the food options and to enjoy a campfire on the beach-wood and s’mores fixings and popcorn provided by East Bay Suites.

For those rainy days when it makes sense to spend more time indoors, the main lounge area is surrounded by glass picture windows with a fireplace and beautiful beach view of Lake Superior. Checkers and chess games are set up on tables and books are also available for those like myself who love to read.

If you enjoy hiking, the area is loaded with possibilities. Just to name a few:

• Waterfalls in the Temperance River State Park
• Grand Portage National Monument
• The High and Middle Falls in the Judge C R Magney State Park
• Pigeon River Provincial Park just into Canada.

Don’t forget your passport if you plan to experience the falls on the Canadian side. It’s worth the hassle for the experience!
